Equatorial Midnight

By Naturespace · 3 reviews ·

The air that raced across the ocean for a thousand miles runs playfully through the foliage of the island forest. Warm, pleasant, and steady, the wind lifts the sound of the waves into the air and tosses it around, swirling and twisting the soft crashes of the moonlit sea. Stars twinkle through the palm trees above as gentle crickets stitch the evening song together with their subliminal chorus. The tranquility and warmth of this isolated environment induces positive introspection and provides respite from the busyness of urban life. The sense of night is strong and makes a great tool for projecting the creative mood of midnight at any time of the day. This track is pure ambience with no foreground details or distractions, making it an excellent choice for working, reading, and studying. Over speakers, the steady, even sound is good at masking noise while sleeping, but the delicate detail and sense of immersion is best realized with headphones.

Equatorial Midnight consists of the exact same elements as the older track Moonlight - wind, rustling palm fronds, waves and crickets. Both tracks also are ambient noise only with no foreground. But, the focus here is night noise where Moonlight is more about white noise. Here, it sounds more like the recording was set in the forest than the beach itself, with the crickets much more prominent than in Moonlight (though not at all overpowering). In general, the sense of a total environment is stronger in this track due to the fact that each of the sonic elements is much more distinct than in Moonlight. In Moonlight they tend to blend together unless you deliberately try to focused on one. There is also a strong sense of depth and space here, with ascending layers of waves (sounding from somewhere blow and distant), crickets surrounding you, palms rustling above, and the wind alone above that. This track also seems to be good for masking noise, and makes it one of the few such tracks that does feature complex detail rather than focusing mainly on one sonic element, such as wind or water.
