Technical Innovations in Sonic Clarity.
Natural Solutions to Modern Problems.

Naturespace is an effective, drug-free tool for combating stress and anxiety, aiding sleep and relaxation, and enhancing focus and concentration. But we didn't set out to build a wellness product. We set out to capture real places and play them back so convincingly that your nervous system can't tell the difference. Everything on this page is a consequence of that.

What follows is not marketing. Naturespace is not a medical device and does not make clinical claims. These are the words of listeners, across thousands of reviews since 2009, describing what happened when they put on headphones and pressed play.

Sleep and Insomnia

This is what most people find Naturespace for, and what keeps them. A realistic nighttime environment tells your subconscious something that white noise never can: you are safe, you are outside, there is nothing to worry about. Sleep arrives not because the sound masks your noisy apartment, but because your brain has been quietly convinced that you are somewhere peaceful. The difference is immediate and, for many listeners, life-changing.

Recommended tracks for sleep: Odin (steady rain with deep rolling thunder), Sheltered (rain on a covered porch), Night at Lake Unknown (designed to induce a sense of night, useful for jet lag and circadian rhythm), Camping in the Rain, Eternal Reign (all rain, no thunder), and the Steady Sleep collection (17 tracks optimized for continuous, non-disruptive listening through the night).

"I suffer from chronic pain, depression, and insomnia. I can't begin to tell you how much this app has helped me deal with these issues! Just by focusing on and immersing in the many excellent tracks, I can tune out the chaotic noise of the here and now and just forget for awhile. Odin is my go-to track for sleeping and Daybreak Songbirds or Utopia will brighten your mornings."

"I can never sleep anywhere, but now with the magic of Camping in the Rain, I'm out in moments. Absolutely worth every penny."

"I have horrible insomnia, I'm a night shift worker, and live in a noisy apartment. This app does wonders for peace and sanity in not so favorable conditions."

"You won't find sound quality this good elsewhere. Stunning. I am constantly recommending Naturespace to people. There's a lot of different types of things I listen to to combat insomnia, but I'd guess I choose Naturespace at least three times a week. Insomnia isn't a problem anymore."

"Connor Oberst: 'I still don't have an iPhone, but my wife gave me her old one. It doesn't do anything except hold some music and has a nature sound sleep app called Naturespace. Since I am a terrible insomniac and I am scared of silence I rely on that almost every night. My favorite preset is called Night At Lake Unknown, hence the title.'"

Focus, Productivity, and Creative Work

Noise pollution demands mental energy even when you think you're ignoring it. Your brain never stops processing the hum of the HVAC, the conversation in the next room, the siren outside. Naturespace doesn't just mask that noise. It replaces your acoustic environment entirely, giving your subconscious a peaceful place to rest while your conscious mind does its work. Listeners describe entering deep focus states that music, silence, and synthetic sound simply cannot produce.

Our listeners are writers, painters, comic book artists, sculptors, journalists, programmers, and students. The Focus and Concentrate collection contains 20 tracks with steady-state environments: no sudden events, no startling changes, just a continuous space to work inside. Abstract tracks like Afterglow and Dream Machines are popular for creative work, while nature recordings like Newton Under Tree and Hansel and Gretel are preferred for analytical focus.

"I love this to get into a perfect headspace for work. I let the soundscapes close the leaking holes of my attention when I need to hunker down and finish something important."

"I use this app often throughout my busy day: while I work at home, at our retail space, at the yoga studio where I teach, and finally, to help me drift off into sleep. I have fooled my yoga students into thinking it was beginning to rain, or that we were getting a larger than usual flock of birds outside."

"As a writer, this app triggers my senses, imagination, and thirst for art."

"Superlative sound that immerses you in a world all of your own. The sound this app puts out can close you off from the rest of the world, help with meditation, focus you to get some serious work done, relax you and literally drain the tension out of your mind and body."

Stress and Anxiety

Put on a pair of headphones. Press play. Within minutes, your shoulders drop and your breathing slows. This is not relaxation music. There is no melody telling you how to feel. There is a place, and you are in it, and the place is safe. The brain responds to the spatial accuracy of the recording the same way it responds to actually being in a peaceful environment: it stands down. Listeners report that the effect begins quickly and persists after the headphones come off.

"I purchased this app about 16 months ago and have used various sound tracks for pain relief, anxiety suppression, insomnia, mood elevation, concentration enhancement and various other benefits. It is extraordinarily effective and its benefits rapidly take hold with my Bose over-ear headset. Its benefits are truly remarkable and even continue after I must power down the app."

"This app will relax you and bring you to the calming place of your choice. Even when riding the subway I can drown out a crying child or loud conversation with this app."

Tinnitus

White noise machines produce a flat wall of sound. It works, technically. But your brain knows it's artificial, and tolerating it is its own form of fatigue. Naturespace recordings fill the same frequency space, but they do it with rivers, shorelines, and rainfall that occupy the full three-dimensional field of hearing. The tinnitus signal gets buried under something your brain actually wants to listen to. Audiologists have recommended Naturespace for tinnitus retraining therapy.

Tracks frequently cited for tinnitus management: Infinite Shoreline, Brainwash, Cascadia River, and White Water Fall. All feature broad-spectrum water sounds with consistent energy across the frequency range where tinnitus is most commonly perceived.

"I have tinnitus from 25 years in the army as an artillery officer. The ringing magnifies when I lie down to sleep at night... it used to keep me awake for hours. I sought help and it was recommended that I download a soothing sound app. So I searched and I found Naturespace and I am so glad I did! I set the timer for three hours and play my favorite sound, Infinite Shoreline, and within minutes I am sleeping!"

"I have tinnitus, and this replaces that ringing in my ears with beautiful sounds of nature flowing through my head. However, these tracks are good for much more than just sleep. They are great background sounds for so many daily activities."

"If you are looking for audio tracks to help with your Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, you can use these. I have had to contact the customer support several times due to a few different issues. They were always prompt response and very helpful."

PTSD and Chronic Pain

We did not design Naturespace for this. But combat veterans, people living with chronic pain, and listeners managing depression found it on their own and told us what it did for them. The mechanism they describe is consistent: the spatial immersion is convincing enough to displace attention from distress to a peaceful, safe place. This is not distraction the way music provides distraction. It is environmental replacement. The brain accepts the recording as real and responds accordingly. For some people, that has meant sleeping through the night for the first time in years.

"As a sufferer of PTSD and Depression I have been looking for relaxing sounds (without music) for a long time. Naturespace offers that plus more. Put on a decent set of headphones, select where you would like to be in the world, close your eyes and drift away. It has helped my anxiety dramatically. It is simply brilliant."

App Store review

"Can't sleep without it, as a combat veteran this also helps ease my anxiety. I LOVE THIS APP."

"I was recently diagnosed with cancer and have had to deal with chronic pain, hospital stays and major depression and Naturespace has been my relief and escape through the whole thing. Sometimes I'd put on my headphones and just pretend I was near a beach or a river."

"Naturespace app allows me to go to sleep without the tv on! Some of the water sounds remind me of my Navy days being about to sea! Thank you Naturespace you have helped me along with my fellow veterans out there."

Families and Children

Children don't need to understand spatial audio to respond to it. A peaceful environment sounds like a peaceful environment to a three-year-old the same way it does to an adult. Parents use Naturespace for bedtime routines, calm-down moments, and long car rides. One listener used it through labor and delivery. Another discovered that the track their kids demanded at bedtime was also the one that put them to sleep in Maine when the ocean was too calm and the house was too quiet.

"My wife has just gone through her entire labour and delivery of our first-born with the help of the Unity Naturescape. Thank you! Fantastic product!"

App Store review

"My family has a summer house on the Midcoast of Maine, right on the ocean. Last summer we had a stretch of bathtub-calm weather with absolutely NO surf at night. It was just too quiet. I set the sleep timer and picked the kids' favorite ocean track... and we slept like babies, our brains convinced that all was as it should be, ocean and all."

"Shelter has been putting me to sleep for over a year, while Indigo Rain has been putting my friend's newborn to sleep for 4 months now. So you could say it's kid tested and mother approved."

Accessibility

Naturespace is fully compatible with Apple VoiceOver. But accessibility here goes beyond screen reader support. For people who experience the world primarily through sound, the spatial depth of these recordings opens up something that flat stereo never could. One listener, blind from birth, wrote that Naturespace let them feel like they were in nature for the first time. That review changed how we think about what we make.

"I am light perception blind and was born that way so I have never seen nature. This app is absolutely amazing. I have looked for weeks trying to find an app that would help me sleep but I didn't find one until I found Naturespace. I can feel like I'm there."

App Store review

"Being blind, I focus on the sounds of nature since I cannot focus on its visual aspects. All I have to do is plug in the headphones and I am alone in the woods sitting on a log in dappled shade."

App Store review

"The recordings are of fabulous quality. It is like being right there where the recording was made. The sound is so clear and realistic that the listener can tell whether trees are close and densely growing or whether the area is open. Now that all functions of the app work with VoiceOver, I can now enjoy all aspects of the app."
