The Ice Wind of Mývatn
By Naturespace · 1 review ·
The beautiful, inviting color of deep turquoise betrays the dangerous heat contained within the geothermal pools. A strong smell of sulfur wafts along the icy gusts of wind that come in rapid bursts as clouds of tiny ice particles rush over the water, tickling the ice that has accumulated on the bare branches of a lonely bush. There are very few trees on Iceland, so the wind here is unobstructed and very unique. Recorded in the narrowly habitable zone between the hot geothermal pool and the frigid wind, this track captures the sound of ice rain the size of sand grains racing horizontally with the gusts. Vapor wanders above the evocative liquid, whose waves, driven by wind, lap against the edge of the pool as snow falls into the hot water. This recording is an excellent tool for working at a computer, reading, or studying. It is visceral and vivid. The listening level you set will greatly affect the experience. With lower volume levels, it is quite pleasant and adds a sense of cool air to the room. Louder levels make it much more intense and dramatic
