200톤 대 1만 마력, 100퍼센트 압도적이다. 미국 전역에서 모여든 화물열차들이 다이아몬드 교차로를 가로지르며 교차한다. 하나가 빠져나가면 곧바로 다음 열차가 들어온다. 서로 스쳐 지나가는 18편의 화물열차. 합치면 약 3,600톤의 질량이 18만 마력으로 움직인다. 차량이 레일 위를 구를 때마다 소리는 색이 되어 튀어나온다. 그래피티처럼 흩어진다. 날 선 경적이 다음 디젤 기관차의 접근을 알린다. 넓게 펼쳐진 선로는 노래한다. 그 음높이는 열차의 속도와 곧장 이어진다. 금속 바퀴는 무게를 떠받치는 강철의 줄 위를, 바이올린 활처럼 스치며 지나간다. 열차의 진행 방향은 번갈아 바뀐다. 몇 분간 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 흐르다가 곧 오른쪽에서 왼쪽으로 전환된다. 이 교대가 머릿속을 건드린다. 생각이 트이기 시작한다. 이 트랙은 길고, 강하고, 대담하다. 시간에 따라 크게 변하고, 여러 번의 큰 경적이 포함되어 있어 잠들기에는 맞지 않는다. 대신 정면으로 밀어붙이는, 가감 없는 열차 경험이다. 좋은 헤드폰이나 스피커로 듣는 것이 가장 좋다. 다만 볼륨을 낮추면 바쁜 사무실이나 시끄러운 이웃 같은 외부 소음을 가리는 데는 잘 작동한다.

This track! It’s become one of my favorites in the train series. I love the sound of the engines, the horns and the cars going along the track. I miss hearing this sound as I’ve moved from a place that no longer has such sounds. Growing up I lived close to train tracks so this sound was a part of my daily life. I would only hear these sounds during times I would visit home, but now three hours away I can hear this familiar favorite sound anywhere and anytime! Thanks for for this train sound. And I also love how each horn sounds different as well. You’ve captured my heart completely with this one!!
