Black Sands of Reynisfjara

By Naturespace ·

Black volcanic sand disappears under the surf as the ocean heaves itself onto the shore with beautiful crashes of white. Large basalt columns and cliffs line the beach in gravity-defying needles and spires. The shore of Reynisfjara on Iceland’s south coast is famous for its alien landscape and the incredible strength and unpredictability of its waves. If you visit here, never turn your back to the ocean. This track was recorded at the base of steep cliffs of basalt rock known as Reynisdrangar, which reflect the sound of the waves back out to sea, creating an immersive and detailed sound that pulls you in deep. Both powerful and soft, the unique landscape and the magical volcanic black sand give the cold water of the North Atlantic a compelling place to crash
