Avian Dawn

By Naturespace · 10 reviews ·

Ducks, geese, loons, cranes, and several hundred other birds gather in the estuary, nestled into a low fog. The light of the sunrise beams low through the tall grass, and sparkles in the shallow water as the avifauna bathe in the warm morning air. Very busy wildlife, highly active and entertaining.

Lots of constant waterfowl sounds, especially ducks and geese. Also lots of constant chattering from other birds. Not my favorite sound file but active and interesting.

I wanted a wetlands track and this one fulfills my wish. I love noisy wetland birds. So saying that the first time I tried to meditate with it I got a surprise. I experienced a deep emotional cleansing as a result. Not really what I intended but the various birds do draw you into the track and I like the spatial awareness of having various birds left and right with repeating calls. It's not a soothing track but one that does energise you in much the way drinking coffee in the morning does. I'm not a real fan of twittering bird type morning tracks because I find them to busy and high pitched for comfort. Plenty of lower frequency birds on this one.

This is a very, very busy track, so I wouldn't use it as a "wake" sound in the Transitions Timer. Some may find it too distracting. I do find this track to be perfect over speakers, while you tend to household chores. It sounds like the windows are open and you live close to the water. Although this is a busy track, the waterfoul chatter sounds cheerful. This track can even make a gloomy day seem bright and sunny!

This sounds like what the picture suggests - a wetland filled with birds going about their morning activities. There are ducks, red wing black birds and a group of small chittering birds which make up the bulk if the activity, though other birds make brief appearances. A nice morning track, but you have to love busy birds to like this so keep that in mind.

It is currently -20 Celsius outside but while listening to this track, I'm transported to a wonderful, beautiful summer morning. Thank you Naturespace! I regret not getting the whole catalog sooner!

This is my favorite bird track. I will say that it is a very active track but I don't offen just sit and do nothing but listen. So for listening and surfing the web or doing homework, it is perfect. If you like to listen to the tracks while you nap this is not the one for you. It is very active and I don't know that you'd be able to sleep.

Mourning doves, distant geese, songbirds, and swans. You can occasionally hear the lapping of water. Has a sunny, humid, misty morning feel to it. No wind, but it isn't still. Full of life, but pretty relaxing too. Interesting and enjoyable.

This is one of my favorite tracks. This, along with Moosejaw Creek, Life after Life, and Utopia are like paradise to me. I'm growing up in the city, and as a lover of birds, this is both relaxing, and for me educational as I try to put a name to the calls. 100% recommend it to those who love birds.

Early morning in an estuary - many different bird calls overlapping and very active. Strong feeling of warmth and summer. Like morning coffee for the brain. The activity and energy of the birds inspires movement and wakefulness.

The Naturespace Store description is quite accurate on this one, and it should come as no surprise when you listen to the track that it is a bunch of noisy waterbirds. The track is, as usual with the company, beautifully recorded. Sound reproduction seems very lifelike and the sound stage is wide and three dimensional with bird calls coming from all directions and distances. At any given time you can hear anywhere from 4 to 6 different bird species calling simultaneously. There is never any quiet time on this track--the calls are constant and quite strong. This is not a subtle track. What is subtle is a very low sound of water, which can be heard as occasional splashing from the birds, and what sounds like a small stream of water flowing into a pond or marsh. The sound of the water is so subtle on this track that, in order to hear it clearly, you would have to raise the volume of the track to an unacceptable level. Most of the birds on this track call from specific areas of the sound field--a duck quacks to the near right, a red-winged blackbird calls from just left of center and above. My impressions. While the recording itself is really beautiful for its representation of so much rich wildlife, it is one of my least favorite tracks. All of the birds sound like they are in extremely close proximity to the recording equipment and are very loud. The calls, while extremely varied, are very redundant and mostly static in their locations. I should state now that ALL Naturespace tracks loop absolutely seamlessly. Naturespace is the best by far with seamless looping. You won't ever hear the actual splicing of the beginning to the ending, but you will begin to pick up a pattern of certain distinctive sounds repeating themselves in some cases. This track seems to be particularly short by Naturespace standards. I can see how this track could be energizing in the morning--and when played over speakers does create a very cool atmosphere IF the volume is kept low enough to sound as though the birds are just outside. Played at higher volume over speakers, or, especially, over headphones, can be startling. If you have any fear of large flocks of birds you might want to avoid this one. If you are a bird watcher or lover of birds and their environs, then consider purchasing this track. I should mention that Naturespace also sells a longer version of this track called, "Avian Sanctuary at Dawn", on their website or through iTunes. It is 12 minutes long and offers greater variety over the course of the track with some unexpected loud splashing sounds in the water (fish jumping?) not heard in the shorter app version.
